Support the Cause

You have several ways to support the Cofan work of stewarding the natural environment for all of us:

Annual Donation
Make a one-time donation of any amount securely on line. We will send you an annual request to renew.

• Campaign for 5000
  Our very best support comes from ongoing donations from individuals and families.  We welcome and encourage recurring gifts of any amount charged automatically (and securely!) to your credit card.  With a starting gift of $10/month or more, you become an integral part of our cultural survival and conservation work.  Our goal is to build a world-wide community of 5000 donors making recurring gifts to protect one million acres of the world’s most biodiverse rainforest.

• Special Gifts and Grants
  Perhaps you, your family foundation, or your company would make a significant contribution to support one of our projects such as the Ranger Program. We welcome one-time designated contributions of $5,000 or more, and multi-year designated pledges starting at $25,000 up to five years.  For more information, contact us [email protected] or call 708-848-0086.

Current Needs

Current donation situation:
So much of accessing donations is about appealing to what the donor thinks is important rather than an immediate necessity identified by local inhabitants. While not directly “program-related,” the Cofán certainly would welcome an opportunity to access specific items.

– Transportation needs

We need at least one pick-up ($30k) and one “city car” ($20k). We need at least one new outboard motor for travel between the road system and Zabalo
($14,000) and two new 15 hp motors for the park guard entrances on Aguarico and Putumayo. All of these are fairly large purchases but would serve for several years. All involve maintenance, insurance, and licensing. Along with motorized transportation, we need at least two boats to utilize our electric motors, a value of $7,000.

– Solar systems and Equipment

We need equipment ranging from simple “power generators” for under $1,000 to sophisticated systems for implementing hybrid grids, possibly with solar, at the community level with costs of around $15k, camera trapping, drone, and other audiovisual equipment such as used computers and telephones.

Core costs are of course a huge problem always for any organization. We presently have an overall budget need of approximately $200,000 per year to adequately cover this aspect, and if we were to find trust funds or grants to cover all or part of this cost, it would be HUGE.

The Cofans also need to cover the following ongoing costs:

– Property purchasing: $120,000
– Infrastructure: $15,000
– Annual activities: $12,000
